Details on Tonight's Excelsior Fire District Open House and Safety Fair

Annual event will feature something for everyone and takes place this year Oct. 11.

The Excelsior Fire District will host its annual fire prevention open house and safety fair Thursday, Oct. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The event will feature fire and life safety activities, exhibits and demonstrations.

This free event for children of all ages and adults will include dinner and onsite parking. Local emergency response agencies will have educational booths, games and hands-on activities.

The always popular live grease fire demonstration will give guests a chance to see what happens when water is used to put out a grease fire. Members of the community will learn about kitchen fire safety and what to do if a grease fire
occurs on their stove top.

A live fire sprinkler demonstration will provide an opportunity to see up close how fast a fire can spread and how quickly a single residential sprinkler head extinguishes a fire. Guests will feel the heat, but they will not get burned.

Sparky the fire dog will also be present, and fire extinguisher inspection and testing will be available for $8.
