Campus News: Lake Minnetonka Area College Students Earn Academic Honors

Michigan Technological University honored the achievements of nearly 500 graduates last month at mid-year commencement. Among the honorees was Andrea Walvatne of Long Lake, who earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering.

The following students from the Lake Minnetonka area were named to the fall Dean's List at Creighton University for the fall semester of the 2012-2013 academic year. Full-time students who earn a 3.5 grade-point average or better on a 4.0 scale are eligible for the Dean's Honor Roll.

• Julia McShane of Excelsior, a sophomore College of Nursing student
• Rose Olson of Excelsior, a senior College of Arts and Sciences student
• Anjelica Boemer of Medina, a senior College of Business student

The following students have been named to the Dean's List for academic excellence for the fall 2012 semester at Bethel University in St. Paul:

• Amanda Ahlm, a junior, is the daughter of Brad and Dawn Ahlm from Excelsior.
• Susan Carpenter, a senior, is the daughter of Janet Carpenter from Excelsior.
• Shane Dirks, a sophomore, is the son of Alan and Karen Dirks from Excelsior.
• Bethany Englund, a senior, is the daughter of Bradley and Lynne Englund from Minnetrista.
• RacHel Hagen, a junior, is the daughter of Jeffrey and Deborah Hagen from Delano.
• Hayden Hanson, a senior, is the son of Craig and Joan Hanson from Long Lake.
• Jessica Huseby, a junior, is the daughter of Jim and Janet Huseby from Medina.
• Alexandra Lidstone, a sophomore, is the daughter of Paul and Jill Lidstone from Excelsior.
• Bethany Locklear, a senior, is the daughter of Bruce and Dawn Locklear from Delano.
• Jennifer Miller, a senior, is the daughter of Mike and Kris Miller from Excelsior.
• Megan Peterson, a senior, is the daughter of Lee and Darlene Peterson from Orono.
• Kelsey Piepkorn, a senior, is the daughter of Craig and Jackie Piepkorn from Mound.
• Bria Quaintance, a senior, is the daughter of Roy and Sandra Quaintance from Excelsior.
• Ashley Quam, a senior, is the daughter of Bruce and Sally Quam from Minnetrista.
• Nicholas Quam, a senior, is the son of Bruce and Sally Quam from Minnetrista.
• Hannah Smith, a junior, is the daughter of Kari SatHer from Excelsior.
• CatHerine Squires, a junior, is the daughter of Stu and Carolyn Squires from Excelsior.
• Lindsey Sweet, a senior, is the daughter of Janet and Greg Sweet from Excelsior.
• Maxwell Turkbas, a sophomore, is the son of Jay and Patti Turkbas from Orono.
• Samuel Twetan, a sophomore, is the son of Len and Julie Twetan from Excelsior.

Randi Gresenz from Mound named to the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Dean's List for the fall semester of 2012.

Megan Kuntuzos of Mound, a student in the Creighton University College of Business, was inducted into the student chapter of the Jesuit Honor Society Alpha Sigma Nu, at its annual ceremony Feb. 3, in the Harper Center Hixson-Lied Auditorium.

The following students have been admitted to Concordia University in St. Paul:

• Bennett Celichowski, of Shorewood and a student at Minnetonka High School was awarded the Presidents scholarship for the fall 2013 semester.
• Amanda Peterson, of Long Lake and a student at Orono High School was awarded the University scholarship for the fall 2013 semester.
• Mitchell Petersen, of Shorewood and a student at Southwest Christian High School was awarded the Presidents scholarship for the fall 2013 semester.
• Courtney Nash, of Minnetrista and a student at Minnetonka High School was awarded the University and Lutheran Heritage scholarships for the fall 2013 semester.

Kevin Broas, of Excelsior, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota-Crookstonin in Applied Studies and Health Informatics for Software Engineers and IT Professionals Certificate.

Jessica Bevens, of Mound, received a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Biology from UW-River Falls.

Jeffrey Weiss of Greenfield was among those honored on the Lewis University Deans' List for fall semester 2012. Weiss was studying Sociology at Lewis Unviersity.

Sarah Freeman, of Excelsior, was named to the Dean's List at the University of Rhode Island for performance during the 2012 fall semester.

Marissa Kuhnly, of Shorewood, was among over 1,900 students from Wake Forest University who made the Fall 2012 Dean's List.

Emilie R. Holmgren, of Excelsior, has been selected for inclusion on the Dean's List for academic achievement during the fall 2012 semester at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

Lizabeth Lueck, of Long Lake, earned a spot on the Loyola Marymount University Dean's List for the Fall 2012 semester.

James Cahill, of Excelsior, was named to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester at Alfred University. Cahill is a senior in the Inamori School of Engineering.
