Updated: Lake Minnetonka Drowning Victim Identified

Minneapolis man drowned Saturday on Lower Lake North. Divers recovered his body late Wednesday.

A man who drowned in Lake Minnetonka last weekend has been identified.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed today that Jerome Carter, 44 of Minneapolis, died due to drowning and ruled his death accidental.

Carter's body was recovered Wednesday evening. Sonar equipment located the body in approximately 70 feet of water in Lower Lake North. Members of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office dive team made the recovery and were assisted by the Ramsay County Sheriff's Office.

On Saturday, July 30, witnesses reported Carter had jumped from a boat into the lake, swam about 25 feet to help repair a friend’s personnel watercraft, and then struggled while swimming back to the boat. Friends were not able to rescue him.

The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office assisted Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office with the recovery. TheHennepin County Medical Examiner will release the identity of the victim.
