Wayzata Chiropractic Clinic Celebrates 25 Years

The Brost Clinic in Wayzata has become of of the nation's leading chiropractic centers.

When most people think about chiropractic care, they typically think about going in for a traditional adjustment or having a chiropractor twisting and turning like a pretzel maker.

The reality is one local chiropractic clinic has established itself as a recognized leader in Natural Health Care and Chiropractic care—not only in the Lake Minnetonka area, but nationally.

Since opening the doors in Wayzata in 1986, Dr. Barbro Brost’s clinic has grown into one of the largest chiropractic clinics in the country. The Brost Clinic focuses on not only traditional chiropractic care, but also looking for ways to heal using techniques such as massage, acupuncture, spinal decompression, nutritional supplements and physical therapy.

"Because we have a larger clinic than most, we are able to offer some services that many others can't," said Dr. Brost. "I realized very early on while I was working in Sweden that there are many alternative forms of treatment that can work for many people prior to ever having to think about a surgical option, and I've tried to concentrate on finding ways to help people before ever having to consider that option."

It is that Swedish connection that Brost points to as reason for her clinic’s success. She spent six years of her career practicing in Stockholm and she brings some of her experience in the Swedish health care arena to Lake Minnetonka.

"Sweden has been at the forefront of health care for many years," Brost said. "I was able to bring some of my training and experience from my time there to the United States, and it really has made a big difference in our approach toward treatment options. They were offering vitamins and health spas in Sweden long before they did here in the United States. That's just a couple examples of what they offered that we didn't here."

The Lake Minnetonka area was a natural fit for The Brost Clinic, and Brost highlights the population surrounding the lake as a primary reason why.

"There is a health conscience attitude with people that live around and near the lake," she said. "Lake Minnetonka residents are always looking for ways to optimize their health and energy, especially those heading closer to retirement age, so we really strive to offer the best services for them. My family lives in Medina, and we just love the area. There is so much to offer, both as a business owner and a resident."

The Brost Clinic’s path to success has also been paved by Brost's desire to give back to the communities she serves. The Brost Clinic has been active in the Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners organization (www.iocp.org), running a local promotion to collect backpacks for the underprivileged.

"We try to be involved as much as we can on the local level," Dr. Brost said. "Our work with IOCP has included the backpack promotion, but we also will set up shop on distribution days and offer free scoliosis checks on children. It's important that we give back to the communities that have given so much to us, and it helps us foster great relationships and support our community organizations."

Brost has built a team of six doctors in her clinic and has made it a family affair of sorts. Her daughter and son-in-law both work at the practice as doctors.

"It really is a family-oriented business, and I see it here for a long time," Brost said. "We are constantly developing new methods for treatment from everything from acid reflux to carpel tunnel. We have an excellent report with the health care community and we receive many referrals and provide referrals through that trust. I really want to continue to strive to be a leader not only in the Lake Minnetonka area, but also to be recognized as a leader across the country."
