This Weekend: Excelsior’s Party of the Year

Today is the last day to purchase advance tickets.

Come “Celebrate Summer Lake Minnetonka Style” at the Party of the Year in . The South Lake-Excelsior Chamber of Commerce sponsors the party, which has been a part of the community for over a decade. It will feature food, music, a silent auction, awards, and more.

Party of the Year is a community celebration as well as a fundraising event, said Linda Murrell, executive director of the South Lake-Excelsior Chamber of Commerce.

The party kicks off with a buffet dinner and a chance to mingle with neighbors. Silent auction bids will begin at this time. The bidding is very competitive, Murrell promised.

Several items and packages will be in the auction, such as a 4th of July VIP Maynard’s package. The package includes a patio table reservation for six adults at from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on the 4th of July, and a $200 certificate for use on the same day. It’s prime seating for the popular fireworks show, Murrell explained.   

The Independence Day festivities are a major event in Excelsior. The chamber has received $50 dollars toward the event. Their goal: $23,000.

Other projects for which the South Lake-Excelsior Chamber plans to raise funds includes, hanging baskets, chamber programs, and the art scholarship fund. The scholarship will benefit a Minnetonka High School student going to college to study the arts.

Later in the evening, the chamber will present three awards.  The Business Excellence award goes to a chamber member for business success that goes beyond profit. This year’s winner is for outstanding customer service, Murrell announced.

The Lake Minnetonka-Excelsior Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Excelsior will receive the Community Heroes award for their work in the community. Don and Barbara Shelby will receive the Green Award for their efforts in .

A magician and three members of the four-member Sleep Study Band will provide entertainment during the night.

Advance tickets are $55 for individuals and $100 for a couple. Murrell encouraged advance ticket purchase so as to ensure proper planning for the event. Call (952) 474-6461 by the March 1 deadline to purchase advance tickets.

The Party of the Year will be held on Saturday, March 3 from 6:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. at the in Excelsior. Tickets will be sold at the door for $60 each.
