Source: Trader Joes Abandons Plans to Build Excelsior Store

Report: Trader Joes says thanks but no thanks to proposed Excelsior store.

A story posted online this morning by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal cites a source wishing to remain unidentified as saying Trader Joes has abandoned plans to open a new store in Excelsior.

Excelsior Mayor-elect Mark Gaylord said he leared of the Trader Joe's development at Monday night's Planning Commission meeting.

Trader Joes had long been rumored to be the grocery chain examining the former Mason Motors location, but several other grocers have been reported to have expressed interest in the site as well.

While a new grocery store is envisioned to be the centerpiece of the former Mason Motors site, the prime piece of commercial real estate will be occupied by several new tennants. STEELE Fitness has already begun moving into the building, and other businesses may be close behind.
