Owners of 318 Cafe in Excelsior Plan New Restaurant for Glen Lake Neighborhood

A new restaurant in Minnetonka's Glen Lake neighborhood is in the planning stages.

Glen Lake Cafe will be located in Glen Lake Center at 14725 Excelsior Boulevard. The space has in the past been used as a pastry shop and a coffee shop. 

The owner of Glen Lake Cafe is Thomas Peterson, who currently owns the 318 Café, located in Excelsior.

The proposal submitted to the city of Minnetonka includes seating for approximately 55 people in the 2,000 square foot space. The menu would consist of breakfast, lunch and dinner items, along with coffee and baked goods. In addition to the menu, Peterson is proposing to sell wine and beer.

Glen Lake Center, which is about three acres in size, is located on the southwest corner of the Excelsior Boulevard and Eden Prairie Road intersection. 

Staff reports find parking to be adequate and that the proposed restaurant use is appropriate for the site. There would be no expansion of the building, and the proposal requires a conditional use permit to allow on-site sale of wine and beer.

The planning commission will make a recommendation to the city council, which has final authority to approve or deny the request. The tentative public hearing date at the Planning Commission is March 21. The city council plans to hear the proposal on April 15.
