Excelsior Brewing Company Eyes Expansion, Seeks Intel on Stolen Bike

by Danielle Brown
When asked about the mission of the Excelsior Brewing Company, Ben Flattum (senior ambassador) says that it hasn’t changed since day one: it’s still there “for the guy who wants to sample a nice craft beer."
Furthermore, it has remained an approachable space with great beer that makes people want to come back time and time again.
So what is the secret that has sustained the Brewery for almost a full year (anniversary July 2), and keeps propelling it forward?
It’s more than just the beer, although there is no shortage of that to enjoy. Having launched with three flagships (XCLR Pale Ale, Big Island Blonde Ale and Bitteschlappe Brown Ale), the Company’s range of choices has expanded to include six different beers (post-flagships include Bridge Jumper Strong Pale Ale, Helios Hefeweisen, Sunburn Cherry Wheat) on tap that can be sampled at the Brewery itself while simultaneously enjoying a game of giant Jenga.
Besides this, the folks at the brewery have been keeping themselves busy by hosting and attending many events over the past year. Among these were the Food Truck Fair, Oktoberfest, the Luck O’ the Lake Run and the Brewery’s partnering with the Bayview Event Center for a pancreatic cancer research fundraiser. Upcoming events include: the Best of Lake Minnetonka (for which they have been nominated for “Best Customer Service”), a Golf Tournament (June 3), Meet the Brewer/Tap Takeover at the Edina Grill (June 4), cooking with beer class and dinner cruises on the Bayview charter boat.
Updates about the where and when for these events can be found here.
So where can the Brewery’s beer be sampled besides 3rd St.?
“Anywhere with a tap line,” says Flattum.
These taplines run all the way from Excelsior to just before downtown Minneapolis, offering customers a variety of opportunities to get acquainted with the Brewery’s beers. On this note, Flattum thanks the restaurants that the Brewery has “tapped into” for their help in giving the six-man team a “quick uptake on the learning curve [with the help of] their support.”
Amongst all this success, the Excelsior Brewing Company plans to expand in the fall, says Flattum. Included in this expansion will be doubling the current tank capacity and adding a packaging line. To keep track of this expansion, upcoming events and more, visit the Brewery’s blog.
On a final note, the Brewery is on the lookout for it’s growler delivery bike, which was stolen May 28 outside of the Maynard’s restaurant. To keep these guys on the road, be sure to let them know about any information or sightings by calling 952-474-SUDS.
