Opening Night was a Fishing Gold Rush

Friday was like my birthday and Christmas all rolled into one because it was the fishing opener in the great state of Minnesota. The only thing that could make this day better was the fact that I got to go out with one of the best fishing guides in all of  Minnesota—Matt Peters. 

On Friday night Matt invited myself and a few other guys to join him for the fish opener at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday May 14th. The weather was cold, wet and windy just as it is on most openers. But for whatever reason I was cold for 3 days after that night on the lake and that has never happen to me. But the bad weather made for some of the best fishing I have ever had on opening day.

As you can tell from this picture the walleyes were big  and there were plenty of them for the picking. Matt’s secret spot that was so great that we never caught a fish under 25’’. In fact, we reached are limit before 3 a.m. If I do say so myself this may have been my best opening day (night) ever.

I have fished with Matt quite a few times  as a guide and a friend over the years. When I was working with the Twins he was a player favorite for a day out on the lake on one of our off days. Matt not only guides for your favorite Twins players he also guides for that father and son outing or out of town guest who want to see the best fishing Lake Minnetonka has to offer.
