A teenager from Orono is home safe following 24 hours of gut-wrenching uncertainty as to his whereabouts.
Joe Kenney returned home just after midnight, according to a tweet by his brother, Jack.
The search for Joe Kenney began when he did not return home Friday night following an evening out with friends in Hopkins.
Both those who knew Joe and those who did not galvanized quickly and launched a massive social media campaign to find the missing teen. Hundreds of tweets and Facebook posts asking for information on his whereabouts spread quickly, and police from multiple jurisdictions were involved in the search.
"Thank you to all for your speedy help and kindness," Anne Kenney, Joe's aunt, wrote in an e-mail to Patch just before 1 a.m. "Joe has been found and is safely reunited with his family."
Exactly where the teen was for 24 hours without any contact with family or friends remains unclear.
