The Aug. 13 deadline to file candidacy declaration for school board seats up for election this fall has now passed, and there are several surprises around the Lake Minnetonka area.

Nine people have filed for the three open seats on the Wayzata School Board: Dan Haugen, Bill Pritchard, Sarah Johansen, Chris McCullough, Phil Napier, Andrea Cuene, Derek Diesen, David A. Lloyd and Ted Victor.

No incumbents have filed as of Aug. 8. The seats of Susan Droegemueller, Susan Gaither and John Moroz expire in 2014.

The board has a total of seven members and the last new face to join was Cheryl Polzin whose term expires in 2016 along with Jay Hesby, Linda Cohen and Carter Peterson. Board members are elected at-large to four-year terms.

In Orono, Sarah Borchers, Don Germanson, Bob Tuneim and Martha Va De Ven have filed for three seats up for election this November. Tunheim and Va De Ven are both incumbents; Mike Johnson, whose term expires at the end of 2013, did not file for re-election.

In Westonka, three school board members will be elected for four-year terms in the school district general election scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 5. Loren Davis, Gregg Klohn, Pete Wiechert and Gary Wollner have declared their candidacies for the seats. Three seats on the Minnetonka School Board will be up for election this year, and Heidi Garcia, John Holcomb, Peg Keenan, Deirdre Keller-Zucker and Pam Langseth have filed for the seats.
