Local Kids Compete in Life Time Kids’ Triathlon
Almost 400 kids from the Lake Minnetonka area and from throughout the Metro competed in the three-sport event.
On Sunday, July 10, nearly 400 kids participated in the Kids’ Triathlon at Life Time Fitness in Plymouth.
Each child received a race number, timing chip, swim cap, finishers’ medal and t-shirt. For identification purposes, their arms and legs were marked with their race number and age.
“It is so inspiring and so much fun,” said Cherie Kramer, mother of nine-year-old participant Charlie Kramer.

The triathlon began with the swim portion at the pool inside the Plymouth Life Time Fitness. Participants then headed to the transition area in the parking lot for the bike portion of the race. When they returned to the transition area after biking, they set off on the run toward the finish line.
The Junior Division, for those from ages 7-10, included a 50-yard swim, 2.5-mile bike and .5-mile run. For those from ages 11-14, the Senior Division included a 100 yard swim, 5 mile bike and 1 mile run.

The sidewalks and trails around the Plymouth Life Time Fitness building served as the biking and running course. The finish line was near the Hilde Performance Center.
Participants competed for the fastest combined time for all three sports. A custom cycle jersey was given to first place finishers for the each division. The top three finishers in each USAT class for each gender were also recognized.
The goal of the Life Time Kids’ Triathlon is to encourage physical fitness while exposing kids to this type of sporting event.
