Expect to See New 'Clean and Drain' Stations at Lake Minnetonka Public Access Points

The DNR has planned a demonstration of the "Clean and Drain" areas today at the Mississippi River Public Water Access at Jaycee Park in Hastings.

Boaters using popular public boat launches at Grays and Maxwell Bay will soon see new "Clean and Drain" stations during their next outing on Lake Minnetonka.

The areas will be among about 200 set up across the state this summer. They are aimed at curbing confusion at boat launches and helping boaters prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species (AIS).

Nancy Stewart, a DNR Division of Parks and Trails Program Coordinator, said the stenciling should be completed sometime around Aug. 1, and that bins are already in place.

"The rest of (Lake Minnetonka's) access points are administered by other government agencies, so it will be up them to decide if they want to have boat clean-and-drain areas," Stewart said.
