Minnetrista farm is operated by the Three Rivers Park District and offers a variety of events and learning opportunities throughout the year.

Preschool Drop Off: Lil’ Farmhands — Spring is Everywhere

Monday, March 18, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Drop off your preschooler to dig right in to the day-to-day life of the farm. Every day your child will lend a hand with farm chores and prepare a fresh snack. Program activities will focus on the theme of the day through hands-on activities. Plan to get dirty and dress for the weather.

Chickens in Your Backyard

Would you like to collect fresh eggs every day from your very own chickens?  On Saturday, March 23, from 9:30 a.m. – noon, at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista. Farm Supervisor Tim Reese will teach you everything you need to know about raising chickens. Vickie Black, author of “Young Chicken Farmers,” will also lead educational activities for kids and share her tips on getting them involved in raising chickens.

Make Your Own Maple Syrup

Learn to tap maple trees, evaporate sap, and make your own syrup. If you have even a few maple trees at home, you can enjoy this hobby. On Saturday, March 23, from 9:30 a.m. – noon, at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista, you will learn all the steps in the process, be able to buy a few simple supplies to get started, and learn some recipes for using maple syrup on more than pancakes.

Beginning Spinning

Learn how wool goes from sheep to a skein of yarn. On Saturday, March 23, from 12:30-4:30 p.m., at Gale Woods Farm, Minnetrista, join Wendy J. Johnson, fiber artist and author, to learn the basic skills of spinning using a spinning wheel from preparing raw fiber to spinning it into your own, unique yarn. Materials are provided.
