Excelsior Apple Day is Saturday September 7th, 2013 and will feature locally produced food, art, antiques, handicrafts and a good old-fashioned street dance. Two contests are being introduced this year, an Apple Pie/Dessert Baking Contest and an Apple Pie Eating Contest.
The Excelsior Apple Day Apple Pie/Dessert Baking Contest will have six entry categories: Home Baked All-American Apple Pie, Commercial All-American Apple Pie, Home Baked Creative Apple Pie, Home Baked Apple Dessert, Commercial Apple Dessert, and Youth Apple Pie & Dessert (ages 15 and under). Participants deliver their entries to Trinity Episcopal Church of Excelsior Saturdaymorning between 10-11 am for registration and submission.
This year’s contest judges will be Marjorie Johnson, author of Blue Ribbon Baking, former Excelsior Apple Day Queen Nina Stark and Pat Hanily from Lake Minnetonka-Excelsior Rotary.
All baking contest participants will receive a free pass to the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum additional passes. First and second place category winners will receive an Excelsior Apple Day pie plate created by Andrea Falconer of Stones Throw Pottery based in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
Baking contest winners will be announced at 12 noon on the Apple Day stage on Second Street. After the winners are announced, all of those delicious apple pies and apple dessert entries will be available for purchase with a scoop of Sebastian Joe's ice cream donated by Tommy's Tonka Trolley. All proceeds will go to ICA Food Shelf.
The Excelsior Apple Day Apple Pie/Apple Dessert Baking Contest is sponsored by Brightwater Clothing & Gear.
The Excelsior Apple Day Apple Pie Eating Contest will be a classic contest with a twist. There will be two categories: adult and child. Registration for the Apple Pie Eating Contest will be at Trinity Episcopal Church. The pie eating contests will be held on the Apple Day stage at noon following the announcement of the baking contest winners. The adult winner will receive a gift certificate to Cub Foods and the child winner will receive a gift certificate to Something Safari.
