Regardless if you have a Stand Alone Part D Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan that includes prescription coverage, it is always a good idea to do an annual review of the benefits. Once 2013 starts, it might be too late to change plans and you could be “locked in” to the plan for the year. It is a good idea to do a Medicare Part D/Medicare Advantage plan checkup on your prescription coverage. The Annual Election Period this year (for the January 2013 effective date) begins October 15^th and ends on December 7^th. This is earlier than last time.

Benefits can change within the current plan and be different in the new year. Then it might be too late to pick a different plan. So, even if you are happy with the current coverage, please take advantage of checking. Senior Community Services will be providing a free presentation on Medicare Part D and Medicare Advantage plans. This is not a sales pitch but an unbiased educational talk. Topics will include: the Part D benefit, how to compare prescription coverage and how prescription coverage works with various Medicare supplements, employer plans and Medicare Advantage Plans.
