Local Dancers Dazzle at Weekend Recital in Orono

West Metro Dance School performed its spring recital for a full house

Not everyone was fishing Saturday.  Hundreds of people packed the Orono High School auditorium to see the West Metro Dance School recital May 12. Dancers performed numbers ranging from tap to jazz.   West Metro Dance is located in the Discovery Center in Maple Plain.

Casting Call: Wayzata Theatre Company Seeks 'Guys & Dolls' Cast

Blue Water Theatre Company will conduct audition beginning next week.

Blue Water Theatre Company will be conducting auditions for middle school and high school students (those currently in grades six through 12) for their upcoming summer theatre camp production of "Guys & Dolls" beginning on Monday, May 14. Auditions will take place from 4-6 on Monday, May 14, and again from 6-8 p.m. on both Wednesday, May 16, and Friday, May 18, at Blue Water Theatre Company—located at 1250 East Wayzata Boulevard. Students who wish to audition to not have to prepare anything ahead of time. However, interested kids should visit the Blue Water Theatre Company's web site to download the complete production information packet. Plymouth Student Is Google Doodle Finalist

A Gleason Lake Elementary School fifth-grader is one of 50 finalists in a national art contest.

Who knew a few drawings and some Aztec inspiration could win you a trip to New York City? That's exactly what it did for Gleason Lake Elementary School fifth-grader Anna Osipov, who was selected as one of Google's 50 finalists for this year's Doodle 4 Google Art Contest.  “Doodle 4 Google is a contest I promote each year with my fifth-grade students, and I am thrilled that Anna was chosen as Minnesota's representative,” said Dan Roth, teacher at Gleason Lake. Anna of Plymouth was inspired by a discussion in her class about Mayan Aztec culture. As I shopped downtown San Francisco and the surrounding (3) shopping malls I heard Black, White, Latino and Asian children as well as adults attempt to sing "I'll Always Love You". Westonka Art Students Take Home Hardware

Award winning works of student art move on to compete in national competition.

By Lorrie Ham Westonka students Jalyn Macy and Mckae Bailey have been honored with Gold Key Awards at the 2012 Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards (MSSA) Contest for their drawings, Zebra Shoe and Papaya. Senior James Woods and junior Jess Novack have been awarded Silver Keys for their drawings, Shaving and Dat Vic. Out of 1376 individual artwork entries submitted in the state of Minnesota, the jury awarded 133 Gold Keys and 167 Silver Keys for artwork entries. All four students’ artworks will be on exhibit with the other award winning artworks at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design from Jan. 30 through Feb. 26. Minnetonka Student Artists Win 21 Scholastic Art Awards

Twelve Minnetonka High School artists won a total of 21 Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards, and their winning artwork is on display through Feb. 26.

Minnetonka High School has announced that 12 art students received a total of 21 Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards this year, including six Gold Key, six Silver Key and nine Merit Awards.  The artwork is judged on originality, technical skill and emergence of a personal vision. The students’ art is part of the Minnesota Scholastic Art Exhibition which is open to the public daily through Feb. 26 at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Gallery.
