Wayzata Lakefront Planning Initiative Kicks Off With Community Gathering

Launch event on Sept. 11 to help develop a 10-year plan to revitalize Wayzata’s lakefront.

The City of Wayzata invites residents, business owners and lake lovers to help develop a community-embraced vision for one of the city’s most important and enduring assets—its relationship to Lake Minnetonka.

The launch event, "Lake Effect: Inspiration from Around the World," will feature a special keynote presentation and facilitated conversation with attendees, who will have the chance to view inspirational lakefronts throughout the globe while helping to shape the future of their own lakefront.

The free event is open to the public and will take place at the Wayzata Library Garden (south side of the library) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11.

“This exciting event builds on the momentum of the Lakefront Taskforce established by the Wayzata City Council in 2011,” said Wayzata Mayor Ken Willcox. “Our main focus now is to gather as many voices as possible to help develop the 10-year plan.”

In July, 2012, the Wayzata City Council selected the Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation to serve as the process manager for lakefront community engagement

“The Lakefront Planning Initiative really encourages community participation to stimulate new ideas, which include everything from walking and boating tours, interviews, surveys, special events and even neighborhood captains,” said Patrick Seeb, president and CEO of Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation. “The goal here is to start the conversation so we can incorporate a community vision for the future of the lakefront.”

Event Timeline and RSVP Information

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with appetizers, refreshments and exhibits of inspirational lakefronts from around the world. Presentations begin at 5:15 p.m., with a community discussion at 6 p.m. Following the event, all attendees are invited to a guided walking tour and sunset boat ride with city council and task force members.
