Orono resident Kathy Jordan received the below e-mail from her cousin, Mary, who lives in Connecticut. Lake Minnetonka residents interested in helping to make snowflakes for the children of Newtown, CT, can e-mail Kathy or write to Jay.Corn@Patch.com for instructions on how to contribute.

Hi Guys,

I was wondering if you could help me out. The National PTA has suggested contributing paper snowflakes to put in the new school for the Sandy Hook students when they start back in January.

They would like to create a Winter Wonderland for the kids. Could you guys each make a snowflake and send them to me? I would like to send a blizzard to Newtown!

They are due by the 10th of January, so whenever you can get them to me, that would be great. If you'd like you pass this message along, the more snowflakes the better.

Thanks so much,

Mary

Hi! I am an 8th grade teacher in Evanston, Illinois and we saw your article about creating snowflakes! I have some amazing kids who would like to contribute. They are cutting, pasting and writing notes to Newtown. Where can we send our final flakes??

Thanks so much for coming up with this idea! It's a great way to see kids who want to contribute and support your community. Our hearts and thoughts are with you all.

Westport, CT. Some of our employees and many of our customers live in Newtown and this tragedy has touched us all deeply. We will be hosting a snowflake workshop in our store on Saturday, Dec 22 from noon - 3 so we can make a blizzard full of snowflakes to help this wonderful cause. Our community has been so sad all week. we are hoping this will help a little. Thanks for this great idea!!!

I saw this going around on Facebook and will make snowflakes until my fingers ache! I think this is so a neat idea. It shows people around the country that even the smallest effort (cutting a piece a paper into a snowflake) can help ease someone's pain. I can't wait to see a picture of all of the snowflakes!

Northwest Indiana is planning on having a community-wide snowflake making workshop on 1/5 in Crown Point. I hope these kids will be knee deep in paper snowflakes. You are in our prayers.

Our snow flakes are made with love by iris, Aidan, Gabriel, Noah and Layla. They are as home made as it gets. Is the address above ok to send to?

Thank you,
Amie

Hi I am the execuitve director of a local non profit Community Kids Inc (501 C3) We take kids out in the community and work on service projects. We had decided before Christmas to work on the snowflakes as a Community Kids project. Kids will be working in groups or on their own In supevised setting SSL (service hours) can be earned. We will be sending the paper snowflakes up to Connecticut PTSA together. I saw your article and thought local kids might have fun working with others and some may like earning the Service hours they need for their school. We have students from public and private schools in Montgomery, Howard, Baltimore, Fairfax, Arlington and Washington DC that participate in the variety of projects we offer. I thought you might want to mention that in any follow ups to the article. We always love spreading the word about our projects. I will also email you our recent newsletters. Thanks so much
