Daughter of Orono High School Graduate Killed in Newtown Shooting
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced for Charlotte Bacon, whose mother is a graduate of Orono High School.
Update: Charlotte Bacon's funeral will take place Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Charlotte's memory may be sent to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 85 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Newtown, CT 06470.
The daughter of an Orono High School graduate was among the 20 children killed last week in Newtown, Conn., when a gunman went on a rampage inside Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Charlotte Bacon was the daughter of JoAnne (Hagen) Bacon and her husband Joel, according to an online memorial site established to assist the family.
Charlotte Bacon was six and would have turned seven in February. Family members from Orono and other Minnesota communities are being flown to Connecticut free of charge by American Airlines, according to KMSP New story.
Charlotte loved animals, the color pink and Tae Kwon Do. Her funeral will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m
JoAnne Bacon was an active parent in the Sandy Hook Elementary School community. Last holiday season she led nine students—including Charlotte—in a project to fill shoe boxes with small items such as toys, books, home/school supplies for Operation Christmas Child to help brighten a child’s holiday. JoAnne was also the leader of her daughter's Girl Scout troup in Newtown.
Donna Joy Davis, Charlotte's cousin, posted a photo on Twitter last night with a heartbreaking message of grief.
"My little cousin Charlotte Bacon was killed in the Connecticut shooting on Friday," Davis wrote. "Thoughts and prayers for her family are much appreciated. Rest in peace baby girl, know you're in a better place, but we miss you already."
Charlotte's brother, Guy, was a fourth-grader at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
